Avoiding Financial Frauds and Scams

The number of scams targeting lawyers, law firms, and their clients is on the rise. With today’s sophisticated technology, the severity of these scams is constantly evolving, and more and more firms are falling victim to financial fraud. There are severe risks - including loss of money, particularly client trust account funds, bank liability, State Bar discipline, and even damage to a lawyer’s reputation, standing or business that may come from an incident. Learn how to mitigate risk and protect yourself, your firm, and your clients during this session. We will outline the most effective methods for avoiding financial fraud and scams via social engineering, email, phone calls and event text messages.
Presenter: Adriana Linares, legal technology consultant and trainer. She has served as a technology consultant for the Florida Bar Board of Governors and operates The Florida Bar Tech Support Helpline. She currently serves as the Technology and Practice Management Advisor of the San Diego County Bar Association and works with Nota by M&T Bank as a law practice advisor.
